We are a classroom that reads!

May fliers will be sent home soon for the Scholastic Book Order. These fliers provide you with opportunities to order books. Please look them over and decide if you (or your child) would like to order. You can place the order on-line or send the order form and money to the classroom. If you place the order online, please use our class code (LD7Y8) and our class will get points and even free books! You can place the order anytime you’d like. Thank you!

Here is What We Are Learning

Language Arts: We are reading Pioneers To The West to help us understand the importance of well-sequenced events, details and conclusions in stories. We will also use the text features to help us better understand the content.
We are working on narrative writing by using facts and details to make our writing stronger.
Math: We are working in Module 7 and learning how to display data through graphing and problem solve using data. We will move on to recognizing the value of coins and finding the total value of multiple coins and end the module with ordering and finding length measurements.
Science and Social Studies: We are researching famous Americans with our fifth grade buddy class as we study biographies to prepare for our biography project in April. We are also researching about space and learning about the planets in our solar system.

Homework

Homework starts Monday and is due every Friday. Have your child read nightly for 20 minutes and make sure to initial the homework calendar when they have completed their reading. Also, there is one activity due nightly. Please have your student bring their homework folder daily as this is how we chart our day and also any notes or information will be in the folder.

Snack
Please send a snack with your student every day except Wednesday. We have a late lunch and need a snack to keep us focused on our learning. Remember it must be a healthy snack.

Water Bottle
To stay hydrated, please have your child bring a water bottle, that can close, so it doesn't spill.
