Volunteer Opportunity
Calling all grandpas, grandmas, aunts, uncles, or any interested, caring "older" (50 years+) adult to help students at Rio Rancho Elementary Schools with their reading and literacy needs!!!

The Albuquerque OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program has been involved in RR elementary schools for four years. This school year we have 16 tutors working with 19 students on a one-to-one basis for one hour each week. We have tutors in 7 elementary schools. Our goals are to promote literacy, build self-esteem, and positive attitudes towards learning through a mentoring relationship.

The program has great success in improving students' reading, and teachers want MORE willing volunteers for the next school year! We provide everything you need to prepare lessons to motivate students with games and many other tools to help improve their skills. No teaching experience is required!

Next fall tutors will meet with students before or after school in collaboration with the S.A.F.E. program (Students Achieving for Excellence) at 9 Rio Rancho Elementary Schools, including yours!

We will have a one-day, approximately 6.5 hour training session in Rio Rancho on Tuesday, August 25, and are registering interested folks right now! Our training is FREE and we pay for your RR background processing.

For more information, or to register for training, contact Mary Reed, OASIS Tutoring Coordinator, at 263-5087, or mreed@oasisnet.org, or the OASIS office at 884-4529.

Mission: Rio Rancho Public Schools is dedicated to graduating each student with an educational foundation for success as a responsible, ethical contributor to society.
